338 Lapua test

Shell Shock Technologies has taken another bold step forward in ammunition innovation. In the company’s first live-fire tests of the .338 Lapua NAS³ case, performance exceeded expectations and confirmed what its engineering models had predicted: unprecedented velocity, strength, and reliability.

During testing, the .338 Lapua NAS³ cases were run to full pressure with zero failures, validating Shell Shock Technologies’ design simulations. The results were game-changing. The team achieved velocities surpassing 3,000 ft/sec — a remarkable leap when compared to the standard 2,750 ft/sec achieved with a 300-grain Hornady A-Tip in a 27.17” 1:10 barrel. At these new velocities, shooters can expect roughly a 9.09% increase in speed and an extended supersonic range of an additional 200–300 yards.

The breakthrough stems from Shell Shock Technologies’ proprietary case design, which provides approximately 8% more internal powder capacity than traditional brass .338 Lapua cases. This added volume allows for higher velocities while maintaining lower internal pressures, enhancing both ballistic performance and case durability.

With these successful results, Shell Shock Technologies has moved forward with the production of sample cases. In the coming weeks, these samples will undergo further testing as the company prepares to scale up .338 Lapua production. This milestone also sets the stage for parallel development of .50 BMG and .338 Norma cartridges.

Delivering greater range, velocity, and stopping power, the .338 Lapua NAS³ case represents a genuine step change for the platform — and a defining moment in the evolution of large-caliber ammunition.
