Memorial Day Reflection: Supporting Those Who Serve

Memorial Day is a moment to pause. Before the cookouts, the long weekend, and the unofficial start of summer, it is a day set aside to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. They did not ask for recognition. Many never came home. We owe them more than a single day, but a single day is what we have, and we intend to honor it.

At Shell Shock Technologies, we think about that responsibility often. Our work is in ammunition technology, a small piece of a much larger picture, but the people who carry our products into harm’s way are never far from our minds.

Remembering the Fallen

This Memorial Day, we ask that you take a moment to remember the names, the families, and the legacies of those who never returned.

Visit a memorial.

Attend a local ceremony.

Pause at 3:00 p.m. for the National Moment of Remembrance.

Talk with your children about why this day exists, and why it is different from Veterans Day or the Fourth of July.

The freedoms we exercise, including the freedoms enshrined in the Second Amendment, were paid for by people who did not come back to enjoy them.

A Quiet Commitment to Those Still Serving

The best way we know to honor the fallen is to take care of those still standing watch. That has always been part of how Shell Shock Technologies thinks about its work, both in what we build and in how we give back.

Our NAS³™ cases are engineered from a nickel-stainless steel alloy that is significantly lighter than traditional brass. On a range bag, that is a convenience. On a warfighter’s back, it can be something more. Defense studies and field analyses have long pointed to a hard truth: the weight a soldier carries directly affects mobility, fatigue, injury rates, and survival. Lighter ammunition means more rounds carried with less strain, faster movement across difficult terrain, and reduced wear on the people we ask to do the hardest work.

Beyond the engineering, we also work with veteran nonprofits directly. For the past two years, Shell Shock Technologies has hosted the Legends & Heroes Shootout, an annual charity event where 100% of net proceeds are donated to organizations serving veterans and first responders. During both years, the event has supported K9 Heroes 4 Heroes, a nonprofit that pairs veterans and first responders with trained service dogs at no cost to the recipient, providing support for PTSD, anxiety, mobility, and the daily realities of life after service. This year, we were also proud to support the Navy SEAL Foundation, which provides critical assistance to the families of fallen and active Navy SEALs and their support personnel.

We are not the whole solution. We are one piece of an enormous effort, engineered and charitable, that supports the American service member. But it is a piece we take seriously.

This Weekend

If you know a Gold Star family, reach out. If you know a veteran who lost someone, check in. If you have the chance, attend a Memorial Day service in your community.

To the families of those who gave everything: we remember. To those who continue to serve: thank you. To everyone reading this, enjoy your weekend, but please, take the moment.

We will be doing the same.
